submit words | hereThis is why I can’t watch The IT Crowd or The Office.
This is why I can’t watch much of anything that masquerades as comedy.
When I was a kid, I used to literally hide behind the living room sofa when sitcom characters humiliated themselves.
I leave the room, and refuse to watch shows based on this kind of humour if I know about it in advance. I especially hate it when the joke is that it’s telegraphed for five minutes in advance.
I used to run away and hide my face whenever someone did something embarrassing in a movie. I still get really intense vicarious shame/embarrassment for folks I know.
